We charge a small fee of £20.
The process is very simple. You can either complete our online Rehoming form or you can contact the Rehoming Team on 01224 208989, who will take some details and talk you through the process.
We will then arrange to meet with you and your dog to take some photos before putting the dog on our website.
When at all possible, we ask you to keep your dog with you until a suitable match is found.
The fee to adopt a dog depends on the age and breed of the dog.
All the dogs available for adoption are featured on our website. If you see one you think is right for you, fill in the online adoption form and tell us a little about yourself, any previous experience and why you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs.
Give as much detail as you can as to why you think you would be the best match for the dog you have applied for. Our Rehoming Team may get lots of enquiries about some dogs and may not be able to contact everyone personally. We screen people over the phone to assess suitability, depending on the needs of each dog.
If you are successful, a home-check will be arranged, followed by a meet and greet at the DAWGS office. All being well, you will be able to take your new dog home with you then.
There are many reasons why a dog will be rehomed – illness, a change in family circumstance or family breakdown being some of the most common.
If you are chosen to rehome one of our dogs, you will be given more information about why it is being rehomed at this stage.
If a dog has lived with young children before then we are happy to rehome them in another family with children, preferably aged 6 and above.
On average, we would hope to complete the process in around 2 weeks. However, some dogs are harder to rehome than others and some matches may take longer.
Yes, if you have previously applied to adopt one of our dogs, we can keep your details on record. Please get in touch to confirm that you would like us to do so.
If you can’t find an answer to your question, please get in touch and we’ll do our best to help.
